ABOUT ME

I am not accustomed to talking about myself, but I believe it is important to know more about a prospective new  hire than just raw facts. I've been on both sides of the interview process and know that a one- or two-page

resume focused purely on skill and

accomplishments aren't enough. So,

I am offering this glimpse into all the things that make me who I am: my

character, personality, and work ethic, so that you may better determine if I am a good  fit  for  your organization.

The Best

BOSSES

aren't

BOSSY

You catch more flies with honey than vinegar!

Friendly persuasion and a positive attitude are far more effective than barking
commands. Asking instead of ordering is one of my guiding principles. "Thank you" and "please" go a long way, too. Showing appreciation and giving credit to people who contribute makes
 a big difference.

DEMEANOR

I am calm and relaxed by nature, so it takes a lot to rattle my cage. No matter how intense the situation is, I try to remain composed and focused. Being overwrought can be toxic to a group, and it only takes one person to negatively affect the entire team. It doesn't take long for everyone to become emotionally frazzled and unable to concentrate.

Just because I do not seem distressed does not mean I am not serious about my work. I am - very much so. It is imperative for my work to be accurate, concise, and reflect well on me and the organization.

STRESSFUL SITUATIONS

"Type-A" people may see my easy-going personality as indifference, but it is simply my way of taking control of stressful situations so they do not take control of me. Stress triggers negative emotions such as anger and frustration. I simply choose not to allow it. Stress is highly subjective anyway so what one person may see as a crisis, another may see as a challenge. Getting upset never makes a bad situation better.

ADAPTABILITY

I  have  always   embraced change  so I easily  adapt to evolving situations. Life is about  changing and evolving  and I believe that includes one's  work. Some people find their groove and want to stay in it.  I like to  shake things up every  now  and then. It may be as simple as discovering  a new or better way of managing a task or modernizing a process. Evan a small change can breathe new life into an old habit.

If driving in a rut is bad on tires, why would living in one be  any  better on a person?  As Darwin once said:

"It is not the strongest    or the most intelligent

who will survive, but those who can best manage change".

WORKDAY MINDSET

It is imperative that I enjoy what I do, and I want others to as well.

In contrast to many people, I don't just work for a paycheck. I invest myself in what I do, and I believe it shows. The ideal job for me is one that I look forward to every day. A place where everyone is valued and their contributions matter. Although the workplace can't be fun and games all the time, it shouldn't be a drudge either. Employees who are content are more productive, enthusiastic, and ultimately produce better results. Employees should be proud of the work they do and the company they work for. Coworker activities such as potlucks, birthday celebrations, holiday parties, and other events held outside of the workplace are strongly encouraged. Coworkers who form bonds and develop camaraderie are more likely to work together effectively.

Most organizations have OFFICE POLITICS. While it is nearly impossible to avoid, I refuse to play that game. I've already retired from one high-stress career, and I have no interest in office politics drama. As far as my work is concerned, I will never have a personal agenda that distracts me, nor will I "throw people under the bus" for personal gains. "The blame game" is something you won't catch me playing either. It is a sign of strength of character to own up to one's mistakes and address them. Passing blame onto someone else is a sign of weakness and not the act of a true leader.

PERSONALITY TYPE

Sentinel Practical and fact-oriented; reliable; resolute and protective of the team; excellent management skills; a consul who is compassionate, helpful, and easy to trust.

Balanced: Some accountants rely entirely on their left brain: they are methodical, analytical, critical, and compulsively organized. Although I have many left-brain characteristics, they work in concert with my right brain: imagination, instinct, and expansive thinking.

FINDING BALANCE

My analytical workday is balanced with creative projects at home. I usually have an art project in the works -- a sculpture or painting, or a simple home renovation is enough. Most recently, I've been working in metal art which required learning how to weld and use a plasma cutter. My original career choice was screenwriting, and creative writing has always been a favorite of mine. I discovered that digital media can be a very effective medium for art. My other interests include web design, desktop user interfaces, like Rainmeter, and YouTube creative content.

MYERS-BRIGGS TYPE INDICATOR

INFJ Introvert, Intuition, Feeling, Judging. Although I don't value this type of test in general, it has consistently placed me in this category and is very accurate in describing me.  It's hard to argue with that.

INTROVERT or EXTROVERT?

Neither. I tend to fall somewhere between two absolutes when it comes to job-fit assessments. My personality can be outgoing at times, but I am never one to demand attention. While I may lead conversations, I do not seek to be the center of attention.

When I act reserved, I follow the same middle of the road philosophy. Even though I'm quiet, I'm always upbeat and friendly; never brooding or self-absorbed.

So, like most people, I am an ambivert. We have a unique advantage over introverts and extroverts because we have traits of both and adjust based on the situation.

RAMDON FACTS
Writing

ASPIRING SCREENWRITER

My passion for writing developed at age twelve when I wrote my first novella.  At fifteen, I finished the first of many full-length feature films, and at eighteen signed with a literary agent who pitched those screenplays to major production companies. By the time I graduated high school, two of my screenplays had been

optioned by Universal Studios. I was one of the youngest

writers to sell material to a production house at that time.

First Job

NEWSPAPER REPORTER

My high school guidance counselor shared my screenwriting aspirations with the other faculty and staff, and within a few days they all had read my script. Since our school didn't have its own newspaper, the superintendent asked the local newspaper publisher if there was an opening for an apprentice. After a couple of test articles, it was made official. I was issued a Press Pass, which I thought was the coolest thing ever, and I covered local sporting events and school functions.
